Good Day at Cape Elizabeth!
To start with, several good signs of things to come...
10 present and future students of LD went, and we left a bunch of people at home. Speech also got started despite not having practice since mid-September. 3 speech veterans gave it try despite play commitments which ended the night before. They too left people at home. Only 6 LDer's got to compete due to a judging shortage this week, but we had BJ's younger brother Holt (dressed sharply like a competitor) and two new folks - Nicole and Dejouvon - who saw their first tournament. Nice to get that out of the way. Dejouvon got to compete due to a last minute change.
In the end some nice things resulted: awards were for 3 places.
Jesse Mitchell got a 2nd place JV ribbon with an astounding 4-0 record. She got to choose the restaurant for dinner (we went to Wendy's - Tim Horton's - Dunkin Donuts). Jesse also received a $10 gift certificate for Borders. She was proud of the fact that she actually worked on this case on her own. What will happen when she really goes for broke in varsity?
Garrett Keene (sometimes know as Garnett Kleene from Direigo) got an honorable mention in Humorous Interpretation. Pretty good for the first time with little practice.
The year will start shaping up with the distractions out of the way. Bates is ahead for all on the 19th and Speech goes to Madison next weekend!
Mr. C
