Preparing for NFL Q's and Aff economics

First of all this will be at Brunswick on Feb. 11, 2006.

With our vast new team we have earned the right to take 10 people between speech and debate. Unfortunately we have judges for 5 - Ms. Adley and Me. Parents and relatives are not allowed to judge because it is all "varsity". No divisions.

Practice this week and next are "normal" with daily (except Monday) practice the week of the tourney. The first thing we figure out is the "batting order". We'll go out to the first 8, just in case I can buy judges.

NFLQ is double elimination. 2 losses and you are out. Trophies only go to the qualifiers.

Economics: (by command of Dej and Abbs)
Based on various Rays who projected the ideas onto my brain:

Towns get money from property taxes. Property owners pay the taxes based on the value of their property. Okay so far...

If towns can take property by emminent domain because it isn't paying enough taxes/not valuable enough...

The property under that emminent domain "threat" becomes less valuable to buyers (except for speculators) because who wants to be forcefully moved (security).

When the property becomes less valuable, over time other properties will also become less valueable. And, more importantly...

When property values decline, the economy declines. When property values and the economy declines, the government collects fewer taxes! This could offset the advantage to the economy claimed by the Neg.

There is also the personal security of owning a piece of property with low/no risk that it will be taken away. Take that security and the economy is less stable. Any business must have a level of certainty in their dealings in order to function. The possibility that their factory or land could be taken away because someone else could be more valuable tax wise creates uncertainty. And, as far as the other values of the property to quote Mrs. Ray: "
Property rights as a bundle of sticks is a metaphor that is used in law to describe all of the rights that property owners have. ... The bundle of sticks tied up with the security guaranteed in the fifth and fourteenth amendment."
