Middle School Program
This program is strictly voluntary, but highly recommended!
For the time being, we will follow the usual schedule and have meetings on Tuesday and Thursday until the 4pm activity bus. When sports hit or other conflicts arise, we will change things later. Here are some things to keep in mind:
*** We will be setting a 6 week schedule at the Middle School as soon as some details are worked out. Tournaments with Maranacook might be added to that or mixed in. We don't yet know what night we can do this at the Middle School yet.
***We still need some planning about what we will be doing on those visits. A simple manual and a lot of extra concepts on handouts would be good. Some advance research wouldn't hurt. Demos by you guys will be good. Research work and "homework" will be given.
***Jesse will be the visible person in charge. Though Miss Adley and I will be there, and have actual charge of things, we will mainly stay out of the way. Everyone but Jesse will have kids to work with. Jesse will "float" around to help everyone. (pirates float don't they...)
***The principals have some things to work out and money to find for all this, so things will change from time to time. Remember that this is the first time this has been done. Be flexible.
***Because you guys are training future team mates and successors, remember to be good role models. Be on your best behavior (even if it kills you). They'll be watching. Don't be bad mouthing each other, even in jest. Avoid sloppy or lazy behaviors. Show that you guys are the most thoughtful, skilled, hard working and civilized people around. Even if you don't buy it for a second, the new guys will. You want them to be champions so they need to see it from you first.
See you Tuesday.
Mr. C

thoughtful, skilled, hard working and civilized , You have to be kidding Mr. Conant. That's no fun, that's boring and though i do possess marvelous acting ability that will be quite the stretch.
PS. Pirates only float if they don't go down with the ship.

I realize this will be an acting challenge to combine all of those positive attributes with your normal, witty selves. If you fail, Jesse can have you "walk the plank". I'll bet you'd float then too, right up to the point where the sharks get you.
Abby, we'll name the manual "Manuel" if you want to but that might be a bit odd. You'll be a great role model with the Middle Schoolers though. Anyway, don't quit the play on our account. After the junk settles, you'll benefit in debate from the acting experience.

I don't think hard working and good role model necessarily means boring. I didn't say suck all the fun out of debate.
If you think about it carefully, only boring people can get truly bored anyway. They have too many interesting things on their mind. You'll be helping to reduce worldwide boredom by teaching a few kids the rigors of debate.
